What we do…

We call our model “goods for good” because when you purchase a Fábrica product (or good), that exchange brings to life a different set of goods for at-risk women and families living in the Quispicanchi and Ayacucho regions of southern Perú: employment, empowerment, and independence.

We intentionally partner with established organizations and entrepreneurs living in the rural and remote regions of southern Peru who both teach in the artistry of traditional handicrafts, equipping women with new skills and who also share our hopes for employing and empowering the women and families in their communities.

How we do it…

Sales from our online store, wholesale partnerships, and pop-up markets help thread possibilities and turn our hopes into reality.

Proceeds from Fábrica products also support The Quispicanchi Project which collaborates with local organizations on various health and hygiene initiatives, sustainable agriculture projects, special needs education, and supplemental nutrition for food insecure families throughout Quispicanchi.

In many of the rural communities where we partner, women and families experience high rates unemployment, food insecurity, and lack access to opportunities to improve their basic standard of living. In many cases women also experience high rates of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of their spouse or partner.

Our why…

STATISTICS REFLECT THAT WHEN WOMEN HAVE GREATER ECONOMIC POWER, THEY EXPERIENCE LOWER RATES OF ABUSE, SO WE DESIRE TO WORK TOWARDS A REALITY WHERE COMMUNITIES PROVIDE WOMEN WITH GREATER LEVELS OF EMPLOYMENT, EMPOWERMENT, AND INDEPENDENCE.

Our greatest hope is to thread possibilities throughout the Quispicanchi and Ayacucho regions of Peru — possibilities where women and families in the regions experience ever-growing employment, empowerment, and independence.

Our hope.

A Fábrica purchase means better employment. We collaborate with entrepreneurs and women’s artisan cooperatives in the Quispicanchi and Ayacucho regions of Peru. These organizations provide consistent employment to women who live in the local, rural and indigenous communities. For many of these women, employment opportunities are limited, and families rely on what is known as the “informal economy” of street vending — an often inconsistent form of income. By purchasing from Fábrica, you’re helping provide more consistent employment and greater opportunities for our amazingly talented artisans.

empowerment

A Fábrica purchase means deeper empowerment. We hope to bolster the decision-making power, self-confidence, and economic options of our artisans outside of the relationship with their partner or spouse. In addition to consistent and reliable employment, women working with our partners receive regular training and development to improve their skills, hone their craft, and increase the overall quality of the products they produce. The ultimate goal of these efforts is to empower women with the possibility to one day open their own business.

independence

A Fábrica purchase means greater independence. According to the World Health Organization, one in every three women worldwide has suffered physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner in her lifetime. Studies show that as a woman's economic independence increases, these types of violent experiences can decrease. By purchasing from Fábrica, you are a pivotal part of a system of support that is lifting women out of poverty, helping reduce household financial stress, and providing vulnerable women with options and pathways to greater independence.
